Improv Quilt CLASSES FAQS

How can guilds get involved?
Find out how to book Sherri Lynn Wood for in-person events, and online quilt classes and workshop demos on the Guild Info page.

Where can I learn from you now?
Visit the Quilt Classes page.

When can I register for the 2024 Livestream Workshops series?
The 2024 Found Color Season Pass can be purchased now. Individual workshops can be purchased starting Nov. 1, 2024 from the Quilt Classes page. The best way to stay in touch with public launch dates is to be on the Livestream Alerts email list, sign up at the bottom of this page.

Who are these workshops for?
Improv quilting artist, Sherri Lynn Wood’s goal is to teach the improvisational quilting process and ruler-free techniques so that any quilter can follow them. If you know how to use scissors and your sewing machine, you can learn these techniques. While absolute beginners are welcome, it is recommended that you know how your sewing machine works. Quilters with more experience who are new to improv may need to unlearn some of the ways they’ve worked previously. Sherri’s workshop participants say they enjoy connecting to the workshop learning community while gaining improv quilting technical, process, and composition skills.

How will I join the workshop?
Once you’ve registered for the workshop you’ll receive an automated email with access to the workshop’s resource page. If you don’t see the email, please check your spam and promotions folders. If you still don’t see it, contact June. You’ll find the link to Zoom provided on the workshop’s resource page from your computer, tablet or phone prior to the workshop. For the best experience that includes all of Zoom’s features, we recommend using a laptop—a tablet or phone will work, but you will have a smaller viewing screen and will see fewer people at once.

Is there any way to pay on an installment plan?
Yes, you can choose to pay with installments through the PayPal option. Select PayPal during checkout.

After I select registration, I can’t find the checkout?
Once you’ve added a workshop, you can either add more workshops, or click on the cart icon found at the top of the page to proceed to checkout.

What happens if I can’t attend the live workshop?
All participants will have access to the video recording of the improv quilt classes for at least one month following the Livestream date. You’ll find those details on your resource page.

Is there a sense of community in Sherri’s livestream improv quilt classes?
With more participants than is possible during in-person quilt classes, quilters who have experienced Sherri Lynn Wood’s online workshops have overwhelmingly expressed how connected they have felt to their fellow participants. The community develops from easy-to-see demos with a “front row seat,” small groups where participants can connect, large group sharing, and an optional after-event community sewing time.

What does registration include?

  • Free on-demand access to the livestream quilting class recording of the workshop for at least one month following the event.

  • Extended open sew session following each workshop. Join other participants to work on your project, apply new techniques and practice the principles right away, or enjoy sewing in the community. There will be one open sew session following the first day’s workshop for two-day workshops.

  • Easy to see demos of pioneering techniques.

  • Freedom to start implementing her instructions at your pace.

  • Small group interaction and connection with other quilters around the world.

  • Individual and group Q&A.

  • All of the fabric in your own studio at your fingertips.

  • Simple to use Zoom on your computer, phone or tablet.

  • Innovative, relevant content that will change the way you live and create!

Where will I find the supply list?
Each workshop's resource page will list the complete supply list for each workshop. The good news is that you can use your stash, scissors and a rotary cutter without buying any additional notions.

Why are there no refunds?
Once you’ve purchased a workshop, you’re given immediate access to the resource page. It is too difficult to change that access for everyone else in the workshop. The good news is that even if you can’t attend the live event, you’ll have access to the recording for at least one month following the Livestream. Thanks for understanding.

My commitment to racial justice and equity.
Sherri Lynn Wood is dedicated to holding a space of belonging that nurtures authenticity and honors differences. She welcomes and values the unique perspectives of black, indigenous people of culture and recognizes the inequity and harm perpetuated by the white supremacist system that is currently the default of our society. On her blog, read more about Sherri Lynn Wood’s commitment to and the relationship between the improv quilting process and antiracism.
