What to Expect:

  • Improvise Classic Blocks: We’ll dive into 4 community chosen classic blocks —beginning with the FAN— to stretch your imagination and expand your technique — last Saturdays 12-3 pm et, January through April.

  • Independent Study Quilt-Along: Improvise a classic quilt block of YOUR choice YOUR way in May, or continue work on previous Quilt-Along blocks, with tailored community time for 1-on-1 guidance & demos by request. — last Saturday in May 12-3 pm et.

  • Improv Quilt Composition Class: for more in-depth guidance on how to bring your blocks together as individual quilts, or as a combined sampler of all your blocks — first Saturday in June, 12-4 pm et.

  • Guidance and Inspiration: Monthly Office Hours —3rd Tuesdays 3-4:30 pm et, Pre-recorded tutorials, Block history and pivot points, mindset tools and intuitive color tips to supplement your experience.

  • Community Connection: Engage with fellow improvisers in our vibrant online community. Share your creations, ask questions, and inspire one another — Jan 3 through June 31, 2026.

  • You can use whatever fabrics you have on hand—scraps, old clothes, quilting stash. No need to buy matching fabric bundles every month—I know that’s a relief!

    Tools: sewing machine, sharp scissors or rotary cutter and mat, ironing station, pins, fabric marker.

  • You decide. Your blocks can be small sketches or practice pieces. You can make a quilt from each quilt-along or combine blocks from several into one quilt. The course ends with an Improvisation Quilt Composition to help you improve your design skills.

  • In January, we'll start the Squad with the FAN block, picked by community vote at the last 2025 Squad Quilt-Along. Three more blocks will be chosen and voted on by the community at the end of each quilt-along for the following month. In May, you get to choose your own block to improvise independently OR catch up on earlier quilt-alongs - with guidance! There will still be a community Quilt-Along in May.

  • My flow-sewing quilt-alongs emphasize restorative process over results to increase your creative flow, happiness, and motivation, while reducing stress and overthinking. Flow-sewing sessions are designed to activate not only your mind, but also your heart and hands as you make. You'll experience creative breakthroughs and make some impressive patchwork along the way.

  • Yes! You'll get simple tips for using colors in each block. You'll also learn to trust your intuitive color choices. We won't use strict color rules, but if you have a way to pick colors, bring it along! Choosing colors intuitively, will help you connect with your patchwork and the story it wants to tell.

  • YES! We love beginners, whether making a quilt for the first time or trying flexible patterns. We value the beginner's mind energy you bring to the group.

    No matter your experience, we all have the birthright to begin where we are and continue to grow.

    The Squad offers extra pre-recorded resources and a community to both support beginners and engage more experienced improvisers.

    Monthly Zoom office hours will be available for Q&A, giving you a chance to get personal guidance from Sherri Lynn and other members.

  • Yes. I won’t teach hand-piecing, but if you like sewing by hand and know how, you can still join the flow-sewing quilt-alongs and be supported by the community. It will just take more time — which is fine!

  • Yes, it’s new and based on feedback and my own sense of flow. The monthly Quilt-Along was too fast for some, but just right for others. This year, there’s an Independent Study month where you can improvise any block you want. It also helps those who work slower catch up on blocks from January to April. We’ll still have a Quilt-Along on the last Saturday of May for one-on-one help and custom demos. Instead of specific block content in May, I’ll provide an Independent Study Guide to help you improvise any block on your own.

  • Community is open January to June.

  • Yes! All live sessions will be recorded and can be watched again in the community course. This includes Saturday Quilt-alongs, the Quilt Composition Class, and monthly Office Hours with Sherri.

  • Yes it’s included! This year, we’ll focus more on composition and storytelling in our quilts. Instead of making a sixth block in June, we’ll spend that time on composition. The class is on the first Saturday in June, from 12 to 4 pm. If you want to turn your blocks into several quilts or one big quilt, this class will teach you how to compose like a true improviser and round out your Squad experience.

  • All members paid in full will have continued evergreen access to the archived community and ALL the course content and live event recordings, for the lifetime of the course — and guaranteed access AT LEAST one year after the course completes.

  • You can join the first Improv That Block (FAN) Quilt-Along on Saturday, January 31st. Registration opens in January. Signing up gives you the Zoom link and extra materials for the FAN Quilt-Along only.

    Future Quilt-Alongs won’t be sold separately. If you enjoyed this one and want more, you can use your single class fee toward buying the full Squad Community Course at the regular price.

  • All deposits and payments are non-refundable. You will have evergreen access to the Squad even if you can’t attend live.

  • If the instructor's internet goes out due to storms or other issues, the workshop may be delayed:

    • If the class starts late or is interrupted, it can be postponed up to two hours.

    • Check the course materials every half hour for updates.

    • If it can’t continue within two hours, it will be rescheduled for the next day at the same time.

    • Look in the course materials for all updates.
