T-shirts make the softest quilts and their knit construction makes for rich saturated color. In this workshop we will:
Source and prep knit t-shirts for quilting without using interfacing
Experiment with strip-piecing knits with a variety of approaches
Practice composing with 2-colors (two t-shirts)
Learn how to see and harness the vibrancy of after-image colors which are complementary without using a chart
Enjoy the challenge of creating a zero waste composition - incorporating every bit of the t-shirts in your quilt

My goal as an improviser and teacher is to hand to you a range of pattern possibilities, so that you can discover YOUR way of making patterns. The beauty of improv is you can’t do it wrong!
Whether you are new to quilting, to improv quilting, or improv quilting we all have the freedom to begin where we are and continue to grow. Building on content from The Improv Handbook For Modern Quilters, my workshops encourage ALL participants to tap into their beginner’s mind.
Sewing machine, ironing station, rotary cutter/mat, scissors required + fabric stash, scraps or upcycled materials.
Guest Speaker: Christopher Cascio
Each workshop opens with a 20-minute presentation by a different artist/maker, followed by Q&A. Please Note: The role of the guest artist is to share their unique perspectives and ignite our community conversation around color and sustainability. Christopher will not be teaching the workshop.
In my sewing/painting practice I use entirely recycled items of clothing to create the palettes and compositions. These are my clothes, my family's clothes, my friends' clothes and sometimes clothes from the thrift store.
