Colors evoke emotions, emotions evoke color, and they can affect our choices. Tapping into your daily mood is a direct pathway for harnessing emotional energy and sourcing your intuitive sense of color. The two classes will be a week apart. Each day, you can work on making pieced units for your quilt that are inspired by your color moods and surroundings. In the final class, you'll use these units to create your quilt. In this workshop you will:
Learn how to harness your emotional energy and choose colors based on mood
Practice centering daily to become present to the colors in your environment
Learn wedge-strip piecing and layered curve piecing techniques to create fan shaped units
Master clam-shell piecing without a template and order of sewing with units

My goal as an improviser and teacher is to hand to you a range of pattern possibilities, so that you can discover YOUR way of making patterns. The beauty of improv is you can’t do it wrong!
Whether you are new to quilting, to improv quilting, or improv quilting we all have the freedom to begin where we are and continue to grow. Building on content from The Improv Handbook For Modern Quilters, my workshops encourage ALL participants to tap into their beginner’s mind.
Sewing machine, ironing station, rotary cutter/mat, scissors required + fabric stash, scraps or upcycled materials.
Guest Speaker: Amanda Nadig
Each workshop opens with a 20-minute presentation by a different artist/maker, followed by Q&A. Please Note: The role of the guest artist is to share their unique perspectives and ignite our community conversation around color and sustainability. Amanda will not be teaching the workshop.
I get to discover new color relationships around my classroom: in paint water dumped in the sink, magazine scraps on the floor, and on dried up paint on newspaper mixing palettes. And as a quilter, what a joy to walk into a thrift store to see all the pink clothing on one rack and to see the thousands of values and intensities, like paint colors already mixed up and ready to use in my work.
